Stunning colors with exceptional heat tolerance and winter hardiness
The Sombrero® Lemon Yellow Echinacea dazzles with vibrant lemon-yellow blooms that bring brightness and energy to the garden from summer into fall. Part of the highly floriferous Sombrero series, this improved selection is naturally well branched and compact, producing abundant blooms on a uniform, sturdy habit. The varieties in this series are well matched in timing and growth, creating a cohesive, polished look in beds and borders. Plant Sombrero in the spring and enjoy blooms in the very same year, making it a fast-performing addition to your landscape. Its vibrant color is backed by exceptional winter hardiness and excellent landscape performance, ensuring reliable results season after season.
Beyond its visual appeal, Sombrero® Lemon Yellow thrives in heat and tolerates drought once established, delivering dependable performance throughout the growing season. While the plant dies back to the ground in winter, its sturdy seed heads can be left in place for added seasonal texture and to provide food for birds. Cold hardy and pollinator friendly, it attracts bees and butterflies while returning each spring ready to shine again. Whether planted in borders, mass plantings, or as a standout feature, this coneflower offers improved structure, stronger performance, and effortless, long-lasting color.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny spot with well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice the width and the same depth as the root ball, place the plant, and backfill with soil, gently firming it down.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, Echinacea is drought-tolerant and needs less frequent watering.
3. Pruning: Deadhead spent blooms throughout the growing season to encourage further flowering and maintain a tidy appearance. In late fall, leave the stems and seed heads for winter interest and to feed browsing birds. In early spring, cut the plant back to 2" above the ground to prepare for fresh growth.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilizers are typically not necessary unless your soil is particularly poor. If needed, apply a balanced fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth.
