Your perfect accent tree with stunning pink blooms
The Amanogawa Flowering Cherry Tree is a beautifully structured addition to any landscape, thriving in a columnar shape that allows it to fit neatly into tighter spaces while still making a striking impact. This tree grows to a height of 15 to 25 feet, boasting a spread of 4 to 5 feet. Its slender profile is complemented by its smooth, gray bark, which provides a lovely contrast to the light, yellowish-green leaves. In spring, prepare to be captivated by the semi-double light pink flowers with deeper pink margins, creating a delightful visual display that celebrates the season.
Not only does this tree enhance the beauty of your yard, but its manageable size and unique growth habit make it an excellent choice for urban settings or smaller gardens. It's ideal for planting along driveways, in narrow borders, or even as a charming focal point on patios. Hardy in Zone 5, this flowering cherry will bring joy with its enchanting blooms while requiring minimal maintenance, thus allowing you to enjoy its splendor without the need for intensive care.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Choose a location with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole that is twice as wide and the same depth as the root ball. Place the tree in the center, backfill with native soil and compost, and spread a 3" settled layer of mulch over the soil. Cherries are shallow rooted and prone to heat stress, making mulch essential for their care and survival. Water deeply after planting.
2. Watering: During the first 1-3 years of root establishment, ensure the tree receives consistent moisture, especially during dry spells. After establishment, it will need less frequent watering, but be mindful of prolonged dry periods. Cherries are more prone to disease and pest issues if they are water or drought stressed.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or damaged branches. Light pruning will help maintain its columnar form and encourage better air circulation.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced fertilizer to promote healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of blooms.
