Unique dusty blue foliage adds character to your landscape

With large flat sprays of dusty blue foliage adorned with bright white stomatal bands underneath, this tree makes a striking addition to any garden. The unique coloration serves as a delightful contrast against traditional greenery, injecting a sense of calm and serenity into the landscape. The branches exhibit a wonderfully informal habit, cascading gracefully from the main trunk and creating an open structure that allows for air circulation and light penetration.

This tree thrives in full sun, making it an excellent choice for bright, sunny spots in your yard. However, it also appreciates a bit of afternoon shade, particularly in hotter climates. It prefers moist, well-drained soil and should be planted in areas free from drought conditions to truly flourish. Whether as a focal point or part of a mixed border, this broad upright tree will not only contribute aesthetic value to your space but will also serve as an excellent habitat for local wildlife.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Select a location that receives full sun to partial afternoon shade and has well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Position the tree so the root collar is level with the soil surface, then backfill gently and water thoroughly. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch extending 3 feet around the tree, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the establishment period. Water regularly, particularly during dry spells, as this tree is intolerant of drought and prefers a hydrated environment.

3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed, but feel free to remove any dead or broken branches to maintain its health. A light shaping can be done to enhance its natural form but avoid heavy cutting.

4. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer such as Espoma Garden Food® 10-10-10 to support healthy growth. Follow manufacturer instructions for application rates based on the tree’s size.
