A stunning narrow spruce perfect for small spaces

The 'Blue Totem' Spruce is a breathtaking conifer that stands out for its striking blue-gray needles and its elegantly narrow form, making it an excellent choice for gardens with limited space. Unlike traditional spruces, this cultivar boasts a more compact stature, growing slowly and maintaining its slender profile, which enhances its aesthetic appeal without overwhelming your landscape. As it matures, its unique shape draws the eye, providing a beautiful focal point that adds both texture and color to your yard.

In addition to its visual allure, the 'Blue Totem' is a sturdy tree that thrives in cooler climates. Whether planted as a specimen tree or in a grouping to create privacy, this spruce is versatile and easy to grow. Its hardiness helps it endure cold winter weather conditions, bringing lasting beauty to your outdoor space for years to come.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Select a site with well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball, amend the soil if needed, and gently position the tree in the center, filling in with the original soil. Spread a 3 inch layer of soil 3 feet around the tree, pulling the mulch back a few inches from the trunk.  Mulch helps moderate soil moisture, insulates roots, and suppresses weeds.

2. Watering: Water deeply after planting to encourage root establishment. For the first growing season, ensure the tree receives consistent moisture without waterlogging. Once established, the 'Blue Totem' is somewhat drought-tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during dry spells.

3. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed for this spruce; however, it’s best to remove any dead or damaged branches in late winter or early spring. If shaping is desired, light pruning in early spring can help maintain its narrow profile.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilizing can be done in early spring to promote healthy growth. Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer, following the instructions on the package. Avoid over-fertilization, as this can lead to excessive growth or weak branches.
