Planting & Care
1. Planting: Butterfly Candy® Li'l Taffy™ isn't picky about soil type, as long as it is well-draining. Plant your butterfly bush where it will receive full to partial sun (at least 6 hours per day).
Dig a hole twice as deep as the container, then backfill and plant 1″-2″ above soil level. Water and add more soil if needed. Mulch 1-2″ deep around the plant, avoiding the area closest to the stem.
2. Watering: Ensure the area has well-draining soil. Once planted, your Butterfly Bush should be watered once or twice weekly. The soil must be moist at least 6 to 8 inches deep. Once watered, allow the soil to dry out before watering again.
3. Fertilizing: Butterfly Bushes rarely need fertilizer unless you are dealing with poor soil conditions. If that is the case, you can use a slow-release fertilizer for your plants. Follow the instructions on the package of your fertilizer and be certain to water deeply afterwards.
4. Pruning: Prune in spring, after new growth emerges. Remove weak branches in the middle and about 1/2 to 2/3 of the height and width. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time - just cut back to a set of leaves.
