Color Guard Yucca Care
View Full Planting & Care Instructions
Sunlight Your Red Yucca requires full sunlight--between 6-8 hours per day.

Watering Generally, water your plant occasionally, especially during periods of hot, dry weather.
Tough and Tolerant Ornamental Shrub
The ‘Color Guard’ Yucca adds a desert flair, even in colder climates! This incredible shrub is reminiscent of a cactus, but is actually a highly tolerant, low-maintenance perennial that does well all the way to USDA Hardiness Zone 4. While this spiky plant looks like it prefers the heat, it instead remains evergreen and colorful throughout the changing seasons.
The leaves of the Color Guard are what make it stand out, with their distinctive sword-like shape. Bright yellow centers are accented with vivid green borders, forming clumps of foliage that grow 2-3’ tall. They get even larger in the summer, when long flower stalks rise from the center and produce creamy white blooms, attracting pollinators near and far.
The Color Guard is the ideal shrub to add anywhere that needs an inspired accent. Plant in containers, use along borders and in mixed beds, or create a desert-inspired rock garden. This shrub is resistant to drought, deer, and insects and is incredibly low-maintenance. Order yours today!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant Color Guard where it will receive full to partial sunlight (between 4 and 8 hours per day). Choose a spot with well-drained soil, although sandy soil is ideal. Dig a hole 2 times the width of the pot, plant 1-2” above ground soil level, then backfill the hole with soil. Water deeply to settle, then mulch 1-2” deep around the plant.
If planted in a container, fill with a well-drained potting media and at least one good drainage hole. Allow at least 2 feet on each side of the plant and 2-3 feet away from sidewalks or driveways.
2. Watering: Water regularly for the first year but not to the point of sogginess. Then, water occasionally especially during periods of hot, dry weather. Be careful not to overwater.
3. Fertilization: You can feed yuccas lightly before new growth appears in spring with a good-quality, general-purpose fertilizer.
