Exceptional color and durability for your garden
Russian Sage, known for its vibrant silvery-blue foliage and striking lavender flowers, is making waves as a top performer in gardens. This improved cultivar features stiff stems that interlock with one another, preventing the flopping that older varieties are often known for. Instead of sprawling or falling open, it maintains a strong, upright habit all season long while still offering the airy texture and gentle movement gardeners love. Thriving in sunny spots, it brings lasting color and structure to the landscape, tolerates a variety of soil types, and is drought tolerant once established. Recognized as a Colorado State University Top Performer in 2021, it’s an excellent choice for gardeners seeking reliable beauty with enhanced performance.
Beyond its sturdy structure, this plant adds valuable texture to flower beds and borders while attracting pollinators such as bees and butterflies. Its fragrant foliage releases a woody, herbal scent when brushed against, creating a sensory experience that enhances any garden environment. Whether you’re designing a low-maintenance landscape or aiming for a vibrant, wildlife-friendly space, this Russian Sage delivers improved durability, season-long presence, and effortless elegance in the garden.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball, place the plant in, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly.
2. Watering Water the plant regularly during its establishment phase for the first growing season. Once established, it is drought tolerant and requires minimal watering.
3. Pruning Prune back the plant in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. Remove dead or damaged stems throughout the growing season as needed.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize sparingly; an application of a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring can support healthy growth without overwhelming the plant.
