Planting & Care
1. Planting: Pick a spot with moist, well-drained soil and full sun to part shade conditions in growing zones 4-9. Avoid planting your hydrangea in the summer when temperatures are 80 degrees F or higher. Dig a hole two times the size of the root ball and backfill the hole. Lightly tamp the soil down and water gently.
2. Watering: Provide a deep watering once weekly during hot temperatures. Mulching at about 3 inches deep is highly recommended and will cut back on watering and can protect your plant in extreme temperatures.
3. Pruning: While pruning hydrangeas isn’t necessary, you can still prune moderately after they are done blooming to renew an older plant.
4. Fertilizing: Choose a slow release fertilizer. Fertilize once in spring after the last chance of frost and again in early summer for best results.
