Rare, Cold-Tolerant Avocado Variety With Rich, Nutty Flavor
Enjoy delectable avocados in your backyard with the rare Fuerte Avocado Tree! This variety offers bounties of fruit from January through May, for seasons of green avocados you can use in fresh guacamole, salads, and so much more.
This avocado tree is cold-hardy and heat-tolerant, making it the perfect choice for many harsh environments. Plant it with type A avocado trees, like Hass, Pinkerton, Lula, and more, for even more fruit production (and your very own backyard grove).
Additionally, this avocado has a rich, nutty flavor and medium-thin skin, so it's easy to peel and add to your favorite recipes. It's a low-maintenance choice that is versatile for many spaces, like patios and gardens.
You'll get a harvest from winter through spring with the one-of-a-kind Fuerte Avocado Tree. Buy yours now!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Avocado trees need full sunlight, so plant them in a location that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily. More sunlight leads to healthier trees.
These trees thrive in well-draining soil to prevent root rot. Sandy loam or a specialized fruit tree mix is ideal. When planting, avoid disturbing the roots. If you have heavy clay soil, create a mound with a mix of sand, compost, and fine mulch that is taller than the depth of your tree pot and about 6 feet wide.
Dig a hole as deep as the pot, ensuring the tree is planted at the same soil level. Avoid piling soil against the trunk to prevent rot. If you live in an area where temperatures drop below 32°F, provide frost protection or grow the tree indoors, as cold can damage it.
2. Watering: The Fuerte Avocado Tree needs regular watering, but be careful not to overwater, as this can lead to root rot. Water deeply when the top 2-3 inches of soil are dry, using a drip irrigation system or soaker hose for even distribution. Depending on the weather and the tree's age, water once or twice a week. Create a watering basin around the tree’s drip line for better moisture retention, expanding it as the tree grows.
3. Pruning: Minimize pruning to control the tree's size, and use pinching of terminal buds on young trees instead of heavy pruning. Avoid exposing the trunk to too much sunlight, as avocados are prone to sunburn.
4. Fertilizing: Use well-drained, unamended soil in a wind-sheltered location. Apply thick mulch to retain moisture, keeping it away from the trunk. Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season, then reduce frequency once established. Leaf drop is normal, so leave the leaves as mulch. In spring, after flowering, apply a slow-release fertilizer.
5. Pollination: For optimal fruit production, plant Type B varieties (like Fuerte) near Type A varieties like Hass, Lula, Bacon, Mexicola, or Pinkerton.
