Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location that receives full sun and well-drained soil. Dig a hole twice as big as the rootball and as deep. Place the tree in the center and backfill with a mix of native soil and compost. Spread a 3 inch layer of mulch 3 feet around the tree, pulling the mulch back a few inches from the trunk. Water deeply after planting.
2. Watering: Water 2-3 times a week for the first growing season and 1-2 times a week the second growing season. Water deeply during times of drought to keep the tree in best health.
3. Pruning: Prune lightly to maintain its elegant shape and remove any dead or damaged branches during late winter or early spring before new growth begins.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring to promote healthy growth. Follow package instructions for dosage, and avoid over-fertilizing to prevent harm to the tree.
