Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with partial shade to full sun and well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and slightly shallower than its height. Place the plant so the top of the root ball sits level with the surrounding soil, then backfill with native soil mixed with compost. Spread a 3" layer of mulch about 3 feet around the shrub to conserve moisture, insulate roots, and suppress weeds.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, water during dry spells, allowing the soil to dry slightly between waterings. Consistent moisture supports the best bloom performance.
3. Pruning: This hydrangea blooms on old and new wood. Pruning is rarely needed, but if desired, prune lightly just after flowering to remove dead, diseased, or weak growth.
4. Fertilizing: Feed in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer such as Espoma 5-10-5, following package instructions. This supports healthy growth and vibrant blooms throughout the season.
