A striking blend of bold texture and colorful foliage
This beautiful conifer boasts a narrow, upright form that makes it an eye-catching addition to any landscape. The stiff, contorted branches display mahogany red bark that both contrasts and highlights the twisting, threadlike foliage. Shades of yellow to gold dance throughout the foliage, with chartreuse hues appearing toward the center, creating an enchanting display that changes with the seasons. Adding to its unique charm, unusual cockscombs can occasionally be spotted at the tips of its branches, offering an intriguing texture that is sure to draw compliments from neighbors.
Ideal for small spaces or as a standout specimen plant, this variety transforms gardens with its vibrant color and distinctive form. It thrives in various landscapes, whether used as part of a foundation planting or within a mixed border, bringing both visual interest and an element of surprise. This unique cultivar originated from Iseli Nursery as a sport on Chamaecyparis obtusa 'Torulosa', and it will surely elevate your outdoor space with its personality.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a well-draining location with full sun to partial shade to ensure optimal growth. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball but no deeper than the root ball itself. Backfill with native soil and water thoroughly after planting.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, it may require less frequent watering, especially in moist conditions. Be careful not to let the soil dry out completely.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain shape and encourage denser growth. Remove any dead or damaged branches, as well as any wayward growth that detracts from the plant's natural form.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to promote healthy growth. Avoid over-fertilizing, as this can lead to weak growth and increased susceptibility to disease.
