Outward-Facing Ivory Blooms Shift to Burgundy-Pink in Spring
For a colorful display, consider the Ivory Prince Helleborus. This perennial offers color-shifting blooms from late winter to early spring, adding vibrance to any yard in even the dreariest winter conditions.
This plant has pink buds that open to ivory before shifting to a rosy, chartreuse color for a painted effect. Set against deep green foliage, this lovely plant has outward-facing flowers that will capture attention.
Plus, this perennial is resistant to deer, diseases, and pests while withstanding both cold and drought-like conditions. It's the first to bloom in spring, and it makes a wonderful low-maintenance option for any compact space in your garden, yard, patio, and more.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Hellebores can adapt to various growing conditions. They thrive in rich, moist, organic soil but can also grow in sandy or clay soil and tolerate short droughts. Their preferred pH is slightly acidic to slightly alkaline.
These shade-loving plants should be protected from the hot afternoon sun. They can grow in full shade under large deciduous trees as long as they receive sunlight from winter to spring before the trees leaf out.
2. Watering: The plant prefers rich, well-drained soil with a high humus content and consistent moisture for establishment. Once established, it requires very little care. Make sure to water it well.
3. Pruning: Cut back spent flower heads to encourage new growth and prevent unwanted seedlings. Plantlets will form around the parent plant and usually bloom in their third year. Division isn't necessary but can be done in early spring by removing and replanting young side plantlets. Trim last year's foliage back in spring. Do not prune back for winter.
4. Fertilizing: In early spring, apply a light layer of balanced or slow-release fertilizer, or use compost and organic amendments. Consider side-dressing with Epsom salts or dolomitic lime. In the fall, add lime to acid soil if the pH is below 7.0.
