Low-Maintenance and Vibrant Purple Rhododendron Perfect for Colder Climates

Add the Minnetonka Rhododendron to your yard for some stunning color! This heavy-blooming plant is very dense and slow-growing, so you can watch it thrive and blossom over the seasons.

This low-maintenance plant is one of the best Rhododendrons for colder climates. Add it to your shrub borders, containers, hedges, and more to inject some vibrance into your space.

Plus, this dome-shaped shrub offers purple flowers and evergreen leaves for a world of colors. And since it's easy to care for, you can easily create your own butterfly or hummingbird garden with this plant!

Planting & Care

1. Planting: When planting, make sure that the top of the root ball is two inches above the ground level. To fill the hole, mix equal parts garden soil and potting mix. Mound the soil in a way that it creates a basin for water. For optimal growth, the plant should be grown in well-drained soils that are acidic, and contain peat moss and humus-rich amendmentsAdd a thick layer of mulch to keep the roots cool and protect the plant from harsh sun and wind.

Plant your rhododendron in an area that receives full to partial sunlight (4 to 6 hours of sunlight daily). For a hedge, plant your Lavender Rhododendrons about three feet apart.

2. Watering: During the first growing season, it is important to establish a deep and extensive root system by following a regular watering schedule. This plant requires frequent watering, ideally once a week or more often during periods of extreme heat.

3. Pruning: To maintain the shape of the plant, prune only when necessary, and do it immediately after it flowers.
