Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Dig a hole twice as wide and just as deep as the root ball. Place the shrub in the hole, backfill with soil, and water thoroughly after planting. Apply a layer of mulch around the plant to help conserve moisture and suppress weeds.
2. Watering: Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a strong root system. Once established, this shrub is drought-resistant, requiring less frequent watering. Monitor moisture levels during prolonged dry spells.
3. Pruning: Oleander can cause skin irritation when touched, so wear gloves and protective clothing when handling or pruning. This plant blooms on new wood. Remove any dead or damaged branches to promote overall health, and lightly prune throughout the growing season to encourage additional blooms.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer such as Espoma Garden Tone® 10-10-10 to support healthy growth and flowering. Follow package instructions carefully to avoid over-fertilization.
