A self-sowing delight with edible seeds
If you’re looking to add fresh flavor and vibrant greenery to your garden, this organic cilantro plant is an excellent choice. Its bright green leaves are not only a culinary staple, known for enhancing a variety of dishes, but they also give your garden a lively pop of color. This herb thrives in a sunny spot and is easy to grow, making it perfect for novice gardeners and seasoned green thumbs alike. Plus, the experience of snipping fresh cilantro for your meals is unparalleled!
One of the standout features of this plant is its ability to self-seed once it matures. If left undisturbed, it will drop seeds that germinate in the soil, leading to a continual supply of fresh cilantro throughout the seasons. When the seeds transition from green to a reddish-brown hue, they become edible as well, adding a unique peppery flavor to culinary creations. This dual-purpose plant not only enhances your dishes but also enriches your garden ecosystem, providing both beauty and utility. This product is Certified Organic by Clemson University.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Cilantro is best planted in-ground in cool, dry summer climates, where it is slower to bolt (go to seed), and can reseed itself for repeat harvests. In warmer climates, plant in pots and protect from hot afternoon sun.
2. Watering: Cilantro enjoys consistent moisture but isn’t fond of soggy soil. Water your plants when the top inch of soil feels dry, ensuring that the water penetrates deeply to encourage strong root development.
3. Pruning: To keep your cilantro bushy and promote fresh growth, pinch back the tips of the plant when it starts to flower. Regular harvesting of the leaves will also encourage the plant to produce more foliage and delay bolting.
4. Fertilizing: Fertilizer is not needed and should be avoided.
