Planting & Care

Planting:  To plant, dig a hole that is twice as wide and the same depth as the plant's container. Position the plant in the hole so that the top is level with the surface, then add soil and fertilizer around it. Firmly pack down the soil and water the area until it is moist. The plant thrives in partial sun or filtered light throughout the day, as it does not perform well in full sunlight or complete shade. It requires moist, well-drained, acidic soil that is rich in organic matter, similar to the conditions where rhododendrons or azaleas flourish.

Watering:  Maintain average water levels by keeping the soil consistently moist, neither too dry nor overly saturated.

Fertilizing: To fertilize, use a single application of a granular fertilizer designed for trees and shrubs in the spring. If your plant is yellowing or appears unhealthy, this usually indicates a problem with the soil pH. While applying fertilizer or iron can provide a temporary fix, it is essential to address the root of the issue. For a sustainable, long-term solution, focus on adjusting the soil to achieve a more acidic pH.

Pruning: Pruning is not recommended, nor is it necessary for a healthy growth habit. If you must remove a branch, do so only when necessary.
