A compact powerhouse for high blooms

The Show Off Sugar Baby Forsythia Shrub is a delightful choice for gardeners who appreciate abundant blooms in a compact form. As the smallest member of the Show Off® series, this miniature shrub captivates with its tidy, upright habit and impressive blooms-per-inch count. Whether you're looking to brighten a garden bed, line a walkway, or add cheerful color to a container, Sugar Baby delivers big spring impact in a small space.

Blooming in early spring, its vivid yellow flowers are a welcome sight after the cold, gray days of winter. The branches can be cut and brought indoors for a bright seasonal display, making it easy to enjoy its blooms inside and out. Deer and drought resistant once established, this easy-care shrub offers reliable performance and vibrant spring color while keeping landscape maintenance to a minimum.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location with well-drained soil and full sun for optimal growth. Dig a hole that’s twice the width of the root ball and just as deep. Gently place the shrub in the hole and backfill with soil, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the ground. Water thoroughly to settle the soil around the roots.

2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, especially in the early stages after planting. Once established, the Sugar Baby is relatively drought-tolerant. Water deeply when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch, particularly during hot spells.

3. Pruning: Prune after flowering in spring once the blooms have faded. Routine pruning is not required, but remove any dead, damaged, or broken stems as needed. Every few years, remove the oldest, thickest stems by cutting them all the way to the ground to encourage vigorous new growth and the best flowering.

4. Fertilizing: Fertilize in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer to encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering. Follow package instructions to avoid over-fertilizing, which can lead to excessive foliage growth at the expense of blooms.
