Showy Red-Orange Flowers Requiring Little Maintenance
Add the Red Velvet Canna Lily to your garden for a unique and exotic-looking flower. The plant grows plenty of red-orange flowers that can bloom as early as late spring and last until the fall. Beyond the flowers, you can also admire the striking dark bronze-purple foliage.
Canna lilies grow extremely well in containers. Plant them in the center as the focal point, adding in filler annuals around them. Place the containers on patios and poolside for a tropical feel. You can also plant Canna Lillies en masse for an epic display of color or in borders or raised beds.
The Red Velvet Canna Lily can handle the heat and is deer and rabbit resistant, making it a great low-maintenance flower with a big effect. It also attracts some of the best small flyers, bringing in butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden.
Give your garden a tropical feel by ordering your Red Velvet Canna Lily today!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Dig a hole twice the size of the plant’s root ball in a location with full sun. Make sure to keep the Canna Lily level with the soil as you place it in the hole and backfill it. Give it a good watering immediately after planting.
If planting in a container, heavier pots will help the top-heavy plants from toppling over in the wind. Make sure to use good-quality potting soil and plant in a container with drainage holes.
The Red Velvet Canna Lily is hardy in zones 8-11. Colder areas can add Canna Lilies to their garden as annuals.
2. Watering: As a tropical plant, Canna Lilies like humid conditions. Water regularly during the hot season and when there isn’t any rainfall. Don’t let your Canna Lily sit in soggy soil.
3. Fertilizing: To encourage blooming, fertilize with water soluble fertilizer every other week or once a month with a slow-release fertilizer. Canna Lilies planted in the soil will require less frequent fertilizing.
4. Pruning: Remove dead flowers to encourage more blooms.
