Unique laceleaf elegance in an upright form

The Seiryu Japanese Maple Tree stands out for being the only true upright dissectum, or laceleaf, maple. Its stunning, finely dissected leaves that create a lacy effect in the landscape, opening green with red margins in spring, changing to medium green in summer, and finally transitioning to an yellow-orange-red in the fall. As an upright tree, it adds height to your garden without overwhelming surrounding plants, all while serving as a focal point that inspires creativity in landscape design.

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the Seiryu is known for growing faster than most Japanese maples, reaching 12-15 feet in 10 years.  Whether used as a specimen tree or in a shady mixed border, it harmonizes beautifully with other species, enhancing the natural beauty of your surroundings. Consider adding this striking tree to your yard to enjoy its year-round charm and elegance.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: To plant your Seiryu Japanese Maple Tree, choose a spot with partial shade to keep its delicate foliage from scorching in full sun. Ideally, the soil should be well-drained and slightly acidic. It's best to plant in the spring or fall when temperatures are milder. Dig a hole that is twice as wide as the root ball and as deep as it is high, ensuring the plant sits level. Backfill gently to avoid air pockets and water the area thoroughly after planting.

2. Watering: Young trees require regular watering, especially during dry spells. Water 1-3 times a week during the first two growing seasons to establish a solid root system. Be sure not to let the roots sit in standing water to prevent rot.

3. Pruning: Prune your Seiryu in late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. Focus on removing any dead or damaged branches and shaping the tree to maintain its upright form. This encourages healthy growth and helps retain its stunning visual structure.

4. Fertilizing: Feed your Acer palmatum Seiryu with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring before new growth starts. This will give it the nutrients it needs to thrive. Avoid over-fertilization as this can lead to excessive leaf growth at the expense of root development.
