Planting & Care
Planting: Place the tree in full sun for about 6 to 8 hours a day or in partial shade if it is still young. Ginkgo trees can tolerate a wide range of temperatures, but they may have difficulty thriving in hot, dry climates. These trees can grow in various soil types, including sandy, loamy, and clay soils. They prefer well-drained soil with a pH level between 5.0 and 8.0. To help the tree breathe, add wood chips around its base.
Watering: Water the tree thoroughly after planting, and water it regularly during its first year. Once established, it becomes fairly drought-tolerant.
Fertilizing: In the spring, fertilize young trees using a high-nitrogen fertilizer.
Pruning: Prune the tree in late winter while it is still dormant. Use clean, sharp shears for the best results.
