Planting & Care
1. Planting: Whether planting in a garden or in a container, place the Stunner® Weigela in an area it can receive partial to full sunlight (more than 6 hours per day) and enough space between plants for growth.
To plant in the ground, add well-draining soil. Then dig a hole the same depth as the root ball and at least twice as wide. Break up the soil and mix 15-20% compost into the backfill. If root bound, tease out the roots or slice the root ball in several places. Set the plant in the hole and cover the root ball with backfill below the top of the root ball while avoiding covering the top of the root ball or the stem with soil. Water, then mulch with loose organic matter, avoiding the stem.
2. Watering: Once planted, water deeply. Continue to water regularly until established. Water if the environment is especially hot or dry.
3. Pruning: To encourage rebloom, trim lightly just after the first blooms have finished. Remove any dead branches in early spring when the shrub is starting to leaf out.
4. Fertilizer: Fertilize each spring around the root zone. Follow the instructions on the product label.
