A Crispy, Late Summer Pear
The name says it all, the Summercrisp Pear Tree produces exactly the kind of pear you think it would - a crispy pear with a summer harvest. And that's not all this tree has to offer, gorgeous all year around and easy to take care of, the Summer Crisp Pear Tree will be a perfect addition to your garden.
Crispy texture is definitely the standout feature. While many pears ripen to be soft and grainy, the Summercrisp Pear is more like an Asian pear with a firm, crisp texture like an apple. This fruit is perfect for you if you love the taste of pears, but aren't a fan of the often mushy texture.
Get a huge harvest right at the end of summer. Many pears have a mild, refreshing taste, but you don't get to enjoy them until the weather turns cold. Luckily, the Summercrisp Pear will be ready to eat in early-mid August. You'll be able to enjoy a fresh, juicy, crispy, refreshing pair while it's still warm outside.
The Summercrisp Pear tree is stunning. Beautiful clouds of large white flowers bloom in the spring, and then right before summer, the pears start to appear. Before they ripen, the pears are a summery green color with a magnificent blush of red. Enchanting colors all year around, you'll love how well this tree complements your garden.
It's very cold hardy too. Even if you live in a climate that gets as cold as 20 below, you'll still be able to enjoy this late summer fruit. There's no need to worry about a freeze ruining your next year's harvest. The Summercrisp Pear bears fruit every single year.
Forget constant watering, fertilizing and pruning. Ready to grow in most kinds of soils, climates and even in polluted, urban areas, the Summercrisp Pear is easy to take care of. The vertical branches mean you don't need to prune for overcrowding, and fairly drought tolerant, you don't have to spend your time focusing on watering this tree.
No common pear diseases either. Many people worry about pear trees because they are often susceptible to many types of pests and disease. The Summercrisp Pear tree, on the other hand, is very disease resistant, so there's no need to worry. Your tree will last for decades and give you and your family a healthy harvest for years to come.

Planting & Care
Find a spot in your yard that gets full sun and has well-draining soil. Plant your Summercrisp Pear tree in a hole twice as wide and nearly as deep as the root's ball. Loosen the root ball and place in hole. Amend soil with compost or peat moss. Make sure the area where to root meets the stem is 2-4 inches above the soil line. When you're done planting, add 3-4" of mulch near the base, but don't mulch around the trunk.
Watering: In your Summercrisp Pear's younger years, water weekly. If the soil appears moist, you don’t need to do any additional watering. As it matures, the summer rainfall will probably be sufficient. Re-mulch around your tree every Spring to help it retain moisture. If you have a dry summer, give your tree some extra water.
Pruning: There's not need to prune the Summercrisp, but if you like, prune dead branches and overcrowded branches in the late winter.
Pollination: Plant a Bartlett, Comice, D'Anjou, or Bosc to ensure pollination.
Fire Blight: The Summercrisp Pear is resistant to fireblight, so there is no disease management to worry about.
Harvesting: The Summercrisp Pear is easy to harvest. Color is the indicator for ripeness, so watch in early August as your pears begin to turn from green to yellow. As soon as you see this color change, pick your pears. If you wait too long, the pears will no longer be crisp. To harvest, simply push up on your pear and twist in the same motion. Pulling can damage the next season's buds, so it's important to twist the pear off the tree without pulling down. Immediately place your pear in a perforated plastic bag or an open container and then place it in the fridge. Do not ripen Summercrisp Pears at room temperature. Your pears will stay fresh for 2 months in the fridge.
