Bright Blue-Purple Blooms
If you’re looking to add a dramatic splash of color to your garden or patio, then this is the best choice. Amazing blue-purple blooms create an extraordinary vision planted within your garden – or all by itself. Not only does the SuperBlue Lavender have the largest blooms of any Lavender, it also emits an intoxicating fragrance.
With an exceptionally long growing season, you’ll enjoy it from spring through fall. Set amongst silver-blue foliage, rich violet flowers on short spikes bloom for months. Unlike many varieties, the SuperBlue grows in a compact fashion with very few gaps, creating a vibrant sea of color. The options are limitless when deciding how to get the most out of this beautiful shrub. They generally don’t grow beyond 12 inches in height, making them ideal for creating colorful low hedges.
Position them along borders or your walkway for a striking accent to your landscape. They add a rich depth and striking color to rock and herb gardens. Planted in containers, you can enjoy them on your patio. The SuperBlue Lavender looks beautiful flourishing from a window box outside your kitchen or bedroom. The closer you plant to your home, the more you’ll enjoy the amazing lavender scent. In fact, clip them and bring inside for an impressive addition to all types of décor.
Many people cut and dry them to enjoy as arrangements and potpourri throughout the year.
Easy to Grow
The SuperBlue Lavender tolerates heat and humidity and is cold hardy. You can expect the violet blooms to come back year after year with little work from you. Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Plant SuperBlue Lavender in a location with full sun for the best flowering and fragrance. Choose well-draining soil, as lavender does not tolerate standing water. It performs beautifully in garden beds, borders, rock gardens, and containers. When planting, space plants far enough apart to allow good air circulation and accommodate their mature width. Lavender thrives when planted slightly above ground level, especially in heavier soils.
2. Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to help establish a strong root system. Once established, SuperBlue Lavender is drought tolerant and prefers infrequent, deep watering. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings, as overwatering can lead to root rot. Container-grown plants may require slightly more frequent watering, especially in hot weather.
3. Pruning: Light pruning encourages a compact shape and continuous blooming. Trim spent flowers throughout the season to promote new blooms. In early spring, prune back any winter damage once new growth appears. After the main flowering period, a more substantial trim can help maintain shape, but avoid cutting into woody growth late in the season.
4. Fertilizing: Lavender prefers lean soils and does not require heavy fertilization. Apply a light, balanced fertilizer or compost in early spring if needed. Too much fertilizer can reduce flowering and fragrance, so minimal feeding is best for healthy growth and vibrant blooms.
