Planting & Care
1. Planting: Choose a sunny location that receives full to partial sun (4-6 hours a day), though this shrub can tolerate part shade. Plant in average, well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Dig a hole twice the width of the root ball and slightly shallower than its height. Place so the top of the root ball is level with the ground. Backfill with soil, tamp gently, and water thoroughly. Adding a 2-3" layer of mulch around the base helps retain moisture and regulate soil temperature.
2. Watering: Water deeply after planting to establish strong roots. During the first growing season, keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Once established, the Sweet Emotion Blaze™ is drought-tolerant and requires only occasional watering, especially during dry spells.
3. Fertilizing: Feed your abelia in early spring with a balanced, slow-release fertilizer designed for flowering shrubs. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application.
4. Pruning: Abelias generally do not require regular pruning, but you may choose to prune for shaping or size control.
