The charm of evergreen foliage and compact size
The Teddy Bear® Southern Magnolia Tree is a delightful addition to any garden, particularly for those with limited space. Its compact growth habit makes it well-suited for urban landscapes or smaller gardens, providing a robust alternative to traditional magnolias while still delivering the signature beauty associated with the species. The tree boasts glossy, dark green leaves that endure year-round, ensuring that your garden remains vibrant and visually appealing even in winter months.
In addition to its attractive foliage, this magnolia produces stunning, creamy-white flowers that exude a sweet, lemony fragrance. These blooms are a favorite among pollinators, adding life and activity to your garden. The Teddy Bear® Southern Magnolia not only serves as a striking focal point but also offers the convenience of evergreen beauty, making it a wonderful choice for those seeking both aesthetics and practicality.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Make sure the soil is well-draining, and if planting in heavy clay, consider amending it with compost. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the tree gently in the center, and backfill with a mix of compost and native soil, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch out to the dripline, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk. Water well after planting.
2. Watering: During the first few years, keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, watering deeply about twice a week during the growing season. Watering frequency may vary depending on climate, soil type, and temperature. Once established, the Teddy Bear® Southern Magnolia is relatively drought tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain a desirable shape. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to promote healthy growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can detract from the tree’s natural form.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. Take care not to over-fertilize, as this can encourage excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers.
