1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Choose a location that receives full sun to partial shade. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball, place the tree gently in the center, and backfill with a mix of compost and native soil, ensuring the top of the root ball is level with the surrounding ground. Spread a 3-inch settled layer of mulch out to the dripline, keeping mulch several inches away from the trunk. Water well after planting.

2. Watering: During the first few years, keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy, watering deeply about twice a week during the growing season. Watering frequency may vary depending on climate, soil type, and temperature. Once established, the Teddy Bear® Southern Magnolia is relatively drought tolerant but will benefit from occasional watering during prolonged dry spells.

3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to maintain a desirable shape. Remove any dead, damaged, or crossing branches to promote healthy growth. Avoid heavy pruning, as this can detract from the tree’s natural form.

4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as new growth begins. Take care not to over-fertilize, as this can encourage excessive leaf growth at the expense of flowers.
