Twombly's Red Sentinel Japanese Maple is a remarkable specimen that draws the eye with its colorful foliage, which emerges bright red in spring, changes to maroon-red in summer, then back to vivid red in fall. Growing 8–10 feet tall and 3–5 feet wide in its first decade, this tree is narrow enough to tuck into tight spaces, small garden beds, or even containers, all while making a vibrant impact without shading other plants.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Plant or repot within 4 weeks of arrival. Remove the stake and ties at planting, as these are only for shipping. Choose a location with partial shade to full sun and ensure the soil is well-draining. In warmer zones, Japanese maples appreciate afternoon shade. Dig a hole twice as wide as the root ball and place the tree gently in the center. Fill in with native soil and compost. Spread a 3" layer of mulch three feet around the tree, pulling the mulch back a few inches from the trunk.
2. Watering: This maple thrives with regular watering, especially in its first year. After establishment, water deeply once a week during dry periods, ensuring the soil stays moist but not waterlogged.
3. Pruning: Prune in late winter or early spring to shape the tree and remove any dead or damaged branches.
4. Fertilizing: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring before new growth begins. Follow package instructions for the appropriate amount, taking care not to over-fertilize, which can damage the roots.
