Become Enchanted by Luminous Autumn Moon Blooms

The camellia sasanqua 'Marie Kirk,' also known as the Autumn Moon Camellia, is an elegant fall-blooming plant that enchants with its formal double white blooms reminiscent of freshly fallen snow. These heart-shaped petals gracefully fall to the ground, creating a picturesque scene in your garden. The shiny dark green leaves with finely-toothed edges add to its year-round appeal.

This vigorous grower boasts a compact, upright habit, making it ideal for foundation, hedge, or container plantings. Reaching a height of 8-10 feet and a width of 4-6 feet, the Autumn Moon Camellia is versatile enough to be grown as a shrub or a small tree. It blooms from October through November, providing a burst of beauty just as many summer gardens are succumbing to the first frost.

The Autumn Moon Camellia is perfect as a specimen plant or a vertical accent, filling large gaps between windows or standing tall in landscape borders. It can also be trained as an espalier against a wall, adding vertical interest to your home foundation plantings.

This camellia requires minimal pruning, making it an easy addition to any landscape. Bring a touch of autumn magic to your garden with the Autumn Moon Camellia and enjoy its luminous white blooms and lush foliage year-round.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant in a partly shaded area (about 4 hours of sunlight a day) with organically rich, well-drained, acidic soil. Dig a hole twice the size of your plant's rootball. Then, backfill the soil and water to establish.

2. Watering: Water deeply and regularly during the first growing season to establish an extensive root system. Then, reduce the frequency once established. If you're unsure when to water, poke your finger three inches down. If it's dry, it's time to water.

3. Fertilizing: Apply an acid-rich fertilizer after your Camellias bloom.

4. Pruning: Minimal pruning is needed; however, lower branches can be removed to form a small evergreen tree.
