Planting & Care
1. Planting: Select a planting site that receives full sun, with at least six hours of sunlight each day. These plants thrive in well-drained soil that is enriched with organic matter but should not be overly fertilized. If your chosen location has poor drainage, consider raising the Lilacs above the water table by creating a planting mound to enhance drainage.
2. Watering: Water regularly until the plants are established. Keep the soil moderately moist and water when the top inch dries out. Use root watering or in-ground irrigation to keep leaves clean and dry, ensuring your plants stay healthy during dry weather.
3. Fertilizing: Mix Nature Hills Root Booster into the planting hole and top with a 3-4 inch layer of mulch or bark chips.
4. Pruning: After your shrub has finished blooming, trim the spent flowers and shape the plant to control its size. Remove any crossing or damaged branches by cutting at a 45-degree angle above an outward-facing leaf bud. Avoid pruning after this time to preserve next year’s blooms.
