Though little-known in the United States, pummelos are hugely sought after around the world. These tasty fruits are sweet, tart, and moderately juicy like grapefruits, but also offer a denser texture and less acidity. What’s more, the pummelo is slightly larger than a grapefruit.
Originating in Japan over a hundred years ago, the Hirado Pummelo Tree is still the second most widely planted tree in the country. In part, this enduring popularity is because of its compact size, as the tree grows no more than 14 feet tall. The tree is also cold hardy, so it can be planted in climates that drop to temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees in the wintertime. Don’t forget its long fruiting season - from November through March!

Hirado Pummelo Tree Floridas are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Hirado Pummelo Tree Florida will drastically increase the size of your crop.
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Choose a spot in your yard with well-draining soil that receives full to partial sunlight. To plant your pummelo tree, dig a hole that’s twice as wide as its root ball and equally deep. Spread the roots around and then backfill the hole.
2. Watering: Water the tree after planting and continue to water it once or twice a week, especially during periods of drought.
3. Fertilizing: Fertilize with a citrus fertilizer according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
4. Pollination: Pummelo trees are self-fertile, but planting more than one tree together will yield a higher crop of fruit.
