Larger, Juicier & Firmer Plums to Eat Right Off Tree

Why Satsuma Plum Trees?

Delivering a huge, healthy harvest of plums to eat right off the tree, the Satsuma Plum is an Asian variety that's second to none. It gives you larger, firmer plums that are delicious and juicy, perfect for enjoying directly from the branches.

Plus, the Satsuma, also known as the Japanese Plum, is more compact. You'll get tons of fruit hassle-free, even in tight garden spaces. Juicier and firmer than its European cousin, the Satsuma is a large, sweet plum prized for canning and eating right off the tree. Once you've tasted the Satsuma, you'll never make another supermarket trip for plums!

Even better is the fact that they're fast-growing. Though they'll need another plum variety to produce fruit, their smaller size and fast growth make them ideal for novices and those without much landscape space.

One of the earliest blooming fruit trees, the Satsuma flowers in late winter and early spring with aromatic, white blossoms that eventually give way to tasty plums.

Other plums on the market tend to die back after planting, but our Satsuma Plum is grafted from reliable, healthy rootstock so that you get the same great benefits, year after year.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your Satsuma Plum in well-draining soil and in full to partial sun.

Dig a hole that is twice as wide but just as deep as the root ball. Place your tree, backfill your soil and water to settle the roots. Mulch the surrounding soil to conserve moisture.

2. Watering: You will not likely need to water your Satsuma Plum Tree unless you live in a very dry area with little irrigation. If you’re not sure when to water, check your surrounding soil about 3 inches down. If the soil is dry here, it’s time to water.

3. Fertilizing: During the first few years, you can add balanced fertilizer at the beginning of spring. However, it is not necessary to fertilize your tree once it begins to bear fruit.

4. Pruning: Your Satsuma Plum only requires light pruning in winter to get rid of dead branches. You can also do some additional pruning to lighten the branches or maintain a vase shape, but it is not necessary.
