Five Months of Vibrant Winter Flowers
Why Hong Kong Orchid Trees?
Bring your winter landscape to life with the large, pinkish-purple blooms of the Hong Kong Orchid Tree. These six-inch fragrant blooms first appear in November, just in time for the holidays, and deliver five months of eye-catching color.
The Hong Kong’s vivid blooms pop against barren winter landscapes. Plus, the Hong Kong Orchid Tree is versatile – if you live in a colder climate, you can plant it in a container for your patio or even bring it indoors when the temperatures drop. In the South, the Hong Kong’s thick, lush foliage grows in an umbrella-shaped canopy through the season, offering the perfect privacy screen or border along your driveway.
Even better is the fact that the Hong Kong Orchid couldn’t be easier to grow. Hong Kong Orchid Trees will adapt to a variety of poor soils, ranging from sandy to heavy clay. And with a high level of drought tolerance and heat resistance, they flourish in dry, hot conditions. Nothing stops the Hong Kong Orchid from blooming for months.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: Select a site with well-drained soil and full to partial sun (4 to 8 hours of sunlight daily).
Dig your hole twice the size as the root ball and just a little shallower. Place your tree and ensure the top of the root flare (where the roots end and the trunk begins) is approximately an inch above the surrounding soil.
Hold the tree straight as you begin to backfill the site, tamping down the soil as you go. Apply water to settle the soil and remove the air pockets, then mulch to retain soil moisture.
If you’re container planting, select a pot that’s about twice the width of your tree’s shipped container and ensure it has drainage holes. Use organic potting soil, place your tree, and choose a full to partial sun location on your patio or by a sunny window indoors.
2. Watering: Water your Hong Kong about twice weekly or check the surrounding soil. If the soil is dry about 2 inches down, water your tree. Check the soil for your potted Hong Kong Orchid at the same depth, and water your tree until you see it flowing from the drainage holes.
3. Fertilizing: Your Hong Kong Orchid Tree will need fertilizing three times per year: In spring, summer, and autumn with a slow-release fertilizer.
4. Pruning: Your Hong Kong Orchid will not need pruning the first year. Start the second year by removing all the dead branches. The best time to prune is in late winter after the tree has finished flowering for the season.FAQs
