What is a Sycamore Tree?

Also referred to as the American sycamore, American planetree, occidental plane, buttonwood, or water beech, the Sycamore Tree is a species native to the eastern and central United States, as well as the mountains of northeastern Mexico and some parts of Canada.

And when you think of classic Shade Trees lining your childhood neighborhood, you've mostly got a Sycamore Tree in mind. From the classic American to the unique Bloodgood London Planetree, the Sycamore makes a timeless statement.

Once you have your Sycamore Tree, the planting process is easy. Choose an area with well-drained soil, dig a hole large enough to accommodate the tree’s root ball (along with a bit of extra width for mature growth), place your tree, and backfill the hole. Finish by watering the surrounding soil and mulching to conserve moisture.

When to Plant Sycamore Trees

Generally, we recommend planting your Sycamore Trees in early spring or fall, before or after the threat of frost has passed. As long as the ground is not frozen, however, your Sycamore Trees should be fine to plant.
