Planting & Care
1. Planting: For best results, plant your Autumn Empress® in the spring or fall, avoiding freezing or extremely hot temperatures. Choose a spot that receives full sunlight with well-drained, acidic soil.
Loosen the soil thoroughly before planting, especially in heavy clay, to improve drainage. Dig a hole twice the size of the rootball, then backfill the hole and water to establish.
2. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water deeply after planting and during dry periods, especially in the first year. Once established, your azalea will require less frequent watering but will still appreciate regular moisture, especially during hot, dry spells.
3. Fertilizing: Use a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in late winter or early spring before the blooming season begins.
4. Pruning: Pruning is optional, but if you decide to, do so after the blooming season, trimming no more than one-third of the plant’s size to maintain its shape and encourage new growth.
