Sizzling Color and California Shade That’s Effortless

Why Autumn Gold Ginkgo Trees?
Exotic looks meet enduring strength for a Golden State shade tree that’s second to none: The Autumn Gold Ginkgo Tree is a must-have. Tolerant of difficult, harsh conditions and rarely bothered by insects or diseases, the Autumn Gold is easy and elegant.

Plus, it’s aptly named for its blazing, eye-catching foliage. And open branching means you see more color and dazzling hues on this Autumn Gold Tree than with other varieties. The coveted Autumn Gold is upright at first, eventually transitioning to a broader silhouette with age.

And because this Autumn Gold Ginkgo Tree is a male variety, you won't have to deal with the foul-smelling fruit that precludes most homeowners from owning the ancient, easy-growing Ginkgo.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Because they’re tolerant of deer, pollution, disease, insects, and more, it doesn’t take much to help your Autumn Gold thrive. Especially since the tree is also highly adaptable to an array of soil types.

However, it’s important to keep a few planting best practices in mind. When it’s time to plant, choose an area with at least 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day and well-drained soil. Dig a hole that’s at least two to three times wider than your Ginkgo’s root ball. After placing your tree, backfill its soil, tamp down to avoid air pockets, and lastly, water to help establish its roots.

2. Watering: It is drought tolerant, but your Autumn Gold needs regular watering during the first few growing seasons for establishment. Typically, you should water your tree thoroughly about once a week. If you’re not sure when to water, simply check the surrounding soil, down to around 2 or 3 inches. If the soil is dry, it’s time to water.

3. Pruning: Excessive pruning is not needed, but we recommend removing dead or diseased branches. Any pruning should also be completed during the winter season or during dormancy.
