The Nation's Most Drought Tolerant Plant
Why Century Plants Plants?
The Century Plant, also known as Blue American Agave, first originated in dry areas of Mexico and are now becoming popular all over America. Why? Well, for starters, they will adapt to dry, sandy soils and thrive in drought, extreme heat, and humidity with ease.
And no matter your soil - from sandy to rocky - the Century Plant will adapt without fuss and bring unique beauty to your landscape. Whether you use it as a groundcover or in rock gardens, the Blue American takes your garden up a notch.
It's known for its large, thick, and fleshy leaves that stem from a central crown and arch over towards the ends. Along with the unforgettable blue-green hue that sets it apart from other plants' exotic tooth edges, the Century Plant's foliage is unlike any other and delivers an alluring fragrance as well.
You can even plant your Agaves in containers to use them as accent pieces for porches and patios. When used to frame entryways, the Agave's blue-green hue gives homes an inviting and charming look.
If you live in a cold area, simply plant your Agave in a pot and bring it indoors once the weather gets cold. Its energetic leaves and vibrant color will keep you company all winter long. And since it's a succulent, it stores water in its leaves to use when it needs a drink and won't need pruning, meaning it essentially takes care of itself...leaving little to no maintenance for you.

Planting & Care
1. Planting: When planting Century Plant, find a location that offers full sun (6 to 8 hours of sunlight daily). This plant can adapt to a wide variety of soil types as long as it drains well.
Dig your hole 3 times the width and slightly shallower than the root ball. Use your fingers to separate the roots of your Blue American Agave and gently position downward in the hole. The top of the root flare (where the end of the roots meets the trunk) should be about an inch above the surrounding soil. Hold the tree straight as you begin to backfill the site, tamping down the soil as you go. When finished, apply water to settle the soil and remove any air pockets that may have formed.
If you're planting in a container, select a pot that's twice as large as your plant's shipped container, use organic soil, and select a sunny spot for your plant.
2. Watering: Stick your finger into the surrounding soil down to a depth of 2 inches and feel around for any moisture. If the soil is drying out, go ahead and water your Agave.
3. Fertilizing: Agaves will benefit from the application of a granulated time-release fertilizer in spring.
