The Most Unique, Hassle-Free Persimmon Available

With the Black Sapote, a simple care routine will lead you to a lifetime fruit and visually striking beauty. This exotic tree grows effortlessly, and it it also delivers unmatched flavor, with sweet fruit that's nearly impossible to find in your local supermarket.

It might just be the sweetest fruit you've ever had. Many liken the taste of the Black Sapote to chocolate pudding, and it's often referred to as chocolate pudding fruit or black soapapple. Soft, edible fruit ripens under an inedible skin - you'll know your tree is ready to harvest when the skin turns a deep yellow-green.

Though the Black Sapote, a type of persimmon, is technically a self-fertile tree, they only produce a big harvest with two or more trees. Thankfully, planting and growing couldn't be easier...especially when you get these sweet rewards.

Your Black Sapote Tree is one-of-a-kind because of its amazing, strong start. Because we’ve grafted your Persimmon from proven rootstock, grown and trained it for more branching (and more fruit as a result), you get healthful, robust results in your own landscape. We’ve done the extra work at our nursery, so you get a proven performer.

This incredible tree will stand out in your yard as a unique and magnificent showpiece. The vibrant colors and delectable fruit will mesmerize your family and friends. Don't let your neighbors beat you to it - get your Black Sapote today!

Pollination Info

Black Sapote Pollination

Black Sapotes are self-fertile. You will get fruit with only one plant. However, adding an additional Black Sapote will drastically increase the size of your crop.

Planting & Care

1. Planting: Plant your tree in a hole about 3 times the size of the pot it comes in. Mix the soil with 50% compost. Be sure to plant in a place with full sun. Make sure your Weeping Persimmon's topmost roots sit at the soil line. Add 4-6 inches of mulch around the base of the trunk, leaving a couple of inches of empty space between the trunk and the edge of the mulch.

2. Watering: Persimmons need a good amount of water in their first year. If you have clay soil, you only need to water your tree once a week. Light soils will need watering twice a week. In either case, you need to deeply water the roots for about 40 minutes. Your tree should receive around 1 inch of water each week. If you are having an especially dry season, you'll need to water more frequently.

3. Fertilizing: Fertilize your tree each year with a 10-10-10 fertilizer. You will need 1 cup for each year of the tree's life. For example, a 2-year-old tree will need 2 cups total for the entire year.
