Planting & Care
1. Planting: The Hot Flash Camellia can be planted at any time of the year, as long as there is adequate water provided in the summer and the ground is diggable in the winter. However, the best times to plant are in spring and fall. This Camellia thrives in sunlight to partial shade and requires acidic, moist, well-drained soil. In hotter climates, it is recommended to provide some shade or filtered sun. It is important to water deeply at least twice weekly for the first 2 to 3 months after planting.
2. Watering: Camellias prefer moist soil but are drought-tolerant once established. Excess water can lead to fungal diseases such as root rot, black mold, blight, and leaf spots.
3. Fertilizing: Mulching is an effective way to maintain cool roots, retain soil moisture, and enrich the soil with nutrients. We suggest applying 1 to 2 inches of mulch to cover the entire root zone. In early spring, feed your camellia with a slow-release fertilizer.
4. Pruning: After flowering, prune to remove dead or dying branches or correct aesthetic or structural issues if necessary.
