Low-Maintenance Shrub Adds a Touch of Color to Your Landscape
The Linebacker™ Distylium is a low-maintenance shrub boasting vibrant foliage from late winter to spring. This evergreen is fairly adaptable and can be great for foundation planting in any yardscape.
Reaching a mature height of nearly 10 ft. and a mature width of about 8 ft., The Linebacker™ Distylium makes a beautiful statement in your garden. The Linebacker™ boasts new growth in a deep red, which transition to a dark, glossy green over time. And because it’s part of the Witchazel family, it blooms with tiny red flowers beginning in early winter, all the way through spring.
The best part? This shrub is easy to care for, disease and pest resistant, and can adapt to almost any environment. We recommend using your Linebacker™ Distylium as an accent plant, screening, or for mass planting. Whichever way you choose, this evergreen compliments a variety of other plants, so you can’t go wrong in your placement!
Ready to try something new in your garden this spring? Then be sure to give the Linebacker™ Distylium a try!
Planting & Care
1. Planting: Dig a hole large enough to accommodate your Distylium shrub's root ball, backfill the soil and water to settle the roots.
Generally, this shrub prefers well-drained soil and full to partial sun (4 to 6 hours of sunlight). The Distylium likes acidic soil and will grow in clay soil, as long as it's moist and well-draining.
If you’re looking to create a hedge, plant the Distylium 24 inches apart. For foundation planting, give the plants six to eight feet of space.
2. Watering: Let your soil dry to the touch down to about 2 inches in between waterings. Once soil is dry, give your Coppertone Distylium a deep watering, especially in summer months.
3. Fertilizing: Fertilize at the beginning of every spring with a well-balanced blend. Follow label instructions for best results.
4. Pruning: After the shrub finishes blooming in winter, you can prune as desired. Or, if you prefer its natural shape, no pruning is required. Round the shrub or let it spread, depending on your landscape.
