Planting & Care
1. Planting: Spring and fall are the best seasons for planting blueberry bushes. Cooler climates can plant in summer, and warmer climates are fine to plant in winter. Blueberry bushes will produce the most fruit when planted in full sun and moist, well-drained, acidic soil. Alkaline soil should be amended with compost or elemental sulfur. Using fertilizers specific for acid-loving plants will help too.
2. Watering: Water thoroughly when planting and about 2 to 3 times weekly for about 1 month after planting. For the next 2 months while your blueberry plant is established, continue to water deeply once or twice per week. During the growing season, a blueberry plant will do best if the soil is kept moist.
3. Fertilizing: Apply Very Berry Fertilizer every 6 to 8 weeks during the growing season. Blueberry bushes grown in pots should be fertilized every 6 weeks.
4. Pruning: Mulching with pine straw or pine bark helps increase soil acidity and keeps the soil moist longer. Apply 1 to 2 inches of mulch in a mound around your plant.
Prune your Misty Blueberry bush in late winter if needed to open up the canopy or remove dead or dying canes.
5. Pollination: The Misty Highbush Blueberry is a self-fertile plant, but planting it near another variety of blueberry will increase the crop yield.
