Planting & Care
1. Planting: Make sure to plant your Rose of Sharon in a well-drained area where it can get 6-8 hours of full sunlight per day. It’s recommended to use 2-3 inches of mulch. If you're in an area that gets snow, avoid planting it where snow might fall off the roof onto the plant. Depending on the variety, space each plant 3 to 8 feet apart. If you're planting in a container, choose well-draining soil and a pot with large drainage holes. Make sure to select the right size pot as some Rose of Sharon varieties can grow very large and require a big container. Place the pot in an area with full sun, as this plant thrives with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight daily.
2. Watering: Once this plant has established its roots, it is able to endure some dryness, although it requires an average amount of water. However, it is important to note that the plant will not thrive in overly soggy conditions.
3. Fertilizing: Remember to fertilize with a granular rose fertilizer in early spring once the ground has thawed.
4. Pruning: Rose of Sharon bushes generally do not require regular pruning, as they are low-maintenance plants. However, pruning or trimming can be done in early spring if desired.
