Planting & Care
1. Planting: Place in an area where it can receive full to partial sunlight daily (between 6-8 hours) in well-draining soil. We also recommend allowing enough spacing between plants, so about 2-4 feet. If planting in a pot, ensure it has at least a 12-inch diameter.
2. Watering: Newly planted Barberry shrubs should be watered 1-2 times a week with one inch of water in total to help the shrubs establish strong and healthy root systems.
3. Fertilizing: In order to boost fertility in the soil and retain moisture near the roots, add a 2-3 inch layer of organic compost as mulch to the root zone early in the spring.
4. Pruning: Pruning is minimal since this plant has a naturally compact shape that’s easy to maintain. Lightly prune any branches damaged during the winter season early in the spring. If more drastic pruning is necessary, it should be done early in the spring to give the plant enough time to recover before winter dormancy.
