Planting & Care
1. Planting: Select an area with full sun for your Tenerife Canna Lily (anywhere that receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight per day).
To plant in the ground, select an area with well-drained soil, dig a hole large enough to accommodate your Canna's root ball, then place your plant. Backfill the soil and water the area to settle your Canna’s roots.
If planting in a container, select a pot that's about twice the size of your plant's shipped container, use organic soil, and place your plant with the soil in its new pot. Also, ensure your new pot has drainage holes.
2. Watering: As a tropical plant, Canna Lilies like humid conditions. Water regularly during the hot season and when there isn’t any rainfall. Don’t let your Canna Lily sit in soggy soil. Generally, you'll want to water your Canna Lily about once a week. If you're not sure when to water your plant, simply check the surrounding soil for dryness about 2 inches down.
3. Fertilizing: To encourage blooming, fertilize with water soluble fertilizer every other week or once a month with a slow-release fertilizer. Canna Lilies planted in the soil will require less frequent fertilizing.
4. Pruning: Remove dead flowers to encourage more blooms.
