Growing Grapefruit Trees at Home
Perfect for an easy, healthy breakfast or delectable snack, grapefruits are one of the most versatile citrus varieties available. And the best part? You can grow them right from home!
Planting directions will depend on the grapefruit variety you choose, but all Grapefruit Trees must be grown in the proper growing zones to start (or indoors, if you live in a cooler area). The most important factors? Proper sunlight and watering.
But planting your Grapefruit Tree is easy! Select an area with well-drained soil or choose a container large enough to accommodate the tree’s root ball, place your tree, and backfill the soil. Lastly, water the surrounding soil to settle your tree’s roots and mulch to conserve moisture.
How to Plant Grapefruit Trees
First, plant your Grapefruit Trees in early spring if they're staying outside. However, you can plant your Grapefruit Trees in pots to stay on the porch or move indoors nearly any time of the year. And generally, we recommend container growing unless you live in a warm, humid area with steady temperatures throughout the year.
